뇌는 사람으로 하여금 보고 느끼고 생각하도록 할 뿐 아니라 '자기'라는 존재가 들어있는 비밀스러운 공간이다. 임상뇌과학연구실에서는 같은 자극이나 상황이더라도 사람마다 다르게 느끼고 생각하고 행동하는 원리를 밝히기 위해 뇌를 연구한다.
뇌 네트워크의 구조와 기능을 확산텐서영상(Diffusion Tensor Imaging: DTI), 기능적 자기공명영상(fMRI), 뇌파 및 뇌자도(EEG/MEG) 등을 이용하여 탐구한다. 또한, Computational Modeling을 통해 생각/느낌과 같은 추상적인 인간의 행동을 설명하고 예측하는 연구를 하고 있다. 본 연구실은 이를 기반으로 우울, 불안 등 큰 고통을 겪고 있는 당사자마저도 객관적으로 설명하기 어려운 정신병리의 기전을 밝혀 관련 질환을 이해하고 치료하는데 보탬이 되고자 한다.

Brain is a network which has both wired and wireless system. It means that brain regions are connected both anatomically and functionally. Anatomical and functional networks in a brain can be measured with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)/ magnetoencephalography (MEG), respectively. Using multimodal neuroimaging technique, both anatomical and functional system can be measured in a same person. We have explored a brain as a functional, task-related &/or default mode, network which is constrained on anatomical network using this technique. We will develop the anatomo-functional connectivity model of brain and the genetic effect on brain network. We believe our multimodal approach can be applied to understand both normal and abnormal brain behavior especially in brain development, neuropsychiatric disorder and the measurement of treatment effect.
